Mechanical Troubleshooting

Solve alignment, binding, and structural issues

Panels Binding or Stuck

If a panel moves partially and then stops or makes a grinding sound:

Check Hinge Alignment

The hinge pin must be perfectly straight. If it's bent or the 3D printed hinge holders are misaligned, it will cause friction.

Inspect for Print Artifacts

Strings or blobs of plastic on the edges of panels or inside hinge holes can cause binding. Use a deburring tool or sandpaper to clean these surfaces.

Lubrication

A tiny amount of dry PTFE lubricant on the hinge pins can significantly reduce friction. Avoid wet lubricants that can attract dust.

Broken 3D Printed Parts

If structural parts (like servo mounts or hinges) are snapping:

  • Increase Infill: Re-print with 40-60% infill for more strength.
  • Wall Count: Use at least 4-5 perimeters for structural parts.
  • Material: Consider switching from PLA to PETG for better durability and impact resistance.
  • Orientation: Print parts so that the layer lines are perpendicular to the direction of stress.
