Follower Modules Assembly

Build the passive panels that provide mechanical support

What You Will Build

Follower modules are passive units that do not have servo motors. They follow the motion of the motorized modules through mechanical linkage or simply provide structural support. Each follower module is simpler and quicker to assemble than motorized modules.

Quantity

4 modules

Parts per Module

4 printed parts

Time Each

~7-8 minutes

Parts & Tools Needed

Per Follower Module

  • • 1× Base plate (3D printed)
  • • 1× Panel arm (3D printed)
  • • 2× Side support (3D printed)
  • • 4× M3×8mm screws
  • • 2× M3×6mm screws

Tools Required

  • • Phillips screwdriver (PH1)
  • • 2.5mm hex key (optional)
  • • Label tape/marker

Assembly Steps (Per Module)

1

Attach Side Supports to Base

  1. a.Position left side support on the base plate, aligning mounting holes
  2. b.Secure with 2× M3×8mm screws
  3. c.Repeat for right side support
  4. d.Ensure both supports are perpendicular and symmetrical
2

Install Panel Arm

  1. a.Position the panel arm between the side supports
  2. b.Align the pivot hole with the side support holes
  3. c.Insert 2× M3×6mm screws through side supports into panel arm pivot
  4. d.Tighten screws until snug, but allow panel arm to pivot freely
  5. e.Test pivot motion: arm should rotate smoothly 0° to 180°

💡 Tip: The pivot screws act as axles. Do not overtighten—leave slight play for smooth rotation.

3

Label and Test

  1. a.Label the module (F1, F2, F3, F4 for Follower 1-4)
  2. b.Test pivot motion by rotating the panel arm manually
  3. c.Verify no binding or resistance throughout the full range
4

Repeat for All Modules

Complete steps 1-3 for all four follower modules:

  • • Keep pivot tightness consistent across all modules
  • • Test each one before moving to the next
  • • Verify smooth rotation on all panel arms

Quality Checks

✓ Verify each follower module:

Common Issues

❌ Panel arm does not pivot smoothly

Solution: Loosen pivot screws slightly. The screw should be tight enough to prevent wobble but loose enough for free rotation. Use a drop of light machine oil if still stiff.

❌ Pivot hole is too tight

Solution: Use a 3mm drill bit to carefully enlarge the pivot hole in the panel arm. Test fit frequently to avoid making it too loose.

Follower Modules Complete! ✓

You now have 4 motorized modules and 4 follower modules. Next, build the center panel that will serve as the foundation for the entire robot.
